Stay at Rowden Abbey — Exclusive Hire
Your Private Country House in the Heart of Herefordshire
When you book Rowden Abbey for exclusive hire, the entire Arts & Crafts country house and its 30 acres of private parkland are yours to enjoy. With eleven bedrooms sleeping up to twenty-two guests, the Abbey is ideal for family gatherings, retreats, milestone celebrations — and for wedding parties seeking a relaxed base before or after their big day.
Built in 1881 and Grade II listed, Rowden Abbey retains its original character — from carved oak panelling and stained glass to William Morris wallpapers and fireplaces in nearly every room. Here, history and comfort come together to create a welcoming space that feels both grand and personal.

Relax & Recharge
This is country life at its most peaceful. Mornings begin with breakfast in the family kitchen, walks through the woodland and lakeside paths, and slow afternoons in the drawing room or library. As evening falls, gather for supper in the grand dining room, light the fire, and enjoy the simple pleasure of conversation and good company.
Exclusive hire gives you freedom — space to celebrate, rest, or simply reconnect. Whether it’s a weekend retreat or a family holiday, Rowden Abbey offers a setting designed for togetherness.
Many of our guests choose Rowden Abbey as their pre-wedding retreat when marrying at nearby venues such as
Bredenbury Court Barns,
Crumplebury, or
Hampton Court Castle and Gardens. The night before your wedding, enjoy dinner together around the long oak table, unwind beside the fire, and wake to the calm of the Herefordshire countryside before being chauffeured to your ceremony in one of our
vintage cars, included with your stay.
Historic Elegance
Every corner of Rowden Abbey reflects the warmth and artistry of its Victorian past. Built in 1881, the house still carries the spirit of the Arts & Crafts movement, with design details that create a sense of timeless charm.
William Morris wallpapers and fabrics add rich texture and colour, while carved panelling, stained glass windows, and stone fireplaces reveal the craftsmanship of a bygone age. The oak-panelled entrance hall welcomes you with character, the dining room glows around its grand fireplace, and the drawing room ceiling is adorned with delicate moulded plasterwork.
Here, history is not just preserved — it’s part of the atmosphere that makes every stay feel special.
