Stay at Rowden Abbey – South Wing

The Grand Heart of the House

The South Wing is the most distinguished part of Rowden Abbey — the grand heart of the house.

With five bedrooms sleeping up to nine guests, this elegant wing captures the spirit of Victorian country life at its most refined.

Enter through the original oak doors into the panelled entrance hall, where stained glass windows, carved wood, and Arts & Crafts details set the tone for the rooms beyond. Guests enjoy exclusive use of the Abbey’s principal reception rooms — the grand dining room, library, and drawing room — along with a spacious kitchen opening directly onto the south-facing terrace and croquet lawn.

Perfect for family gatherings or elegant country escapes, the South Wing combines history, comfort, and beauty in every detail.

Relax & Recharge

The South Wing offers space to slow down and savour the rhythm of country life. Mornings begin with light streaming through stained glass windows, coffee on the terrace, and the sound of the garden coming to life beyond the croquet lawn.

Days unfold effortlessly — cooking together in the large family kitchen, reading in the library, or sharing long, unhurried meals in the oak-panelled dining room. As evening falls, fires glow in the hearth and conversation lingers, filling the Abbey with quiet warmth.

Grand yet inviting, the South Wing is a place to reconnect, celebrate, and enjoy the simple pleasure of time well spent in an extraordinary house.

Historic Elegance

The South Wing captures the enduring beauty of Rowden Abbey’s Arts & Crafts heritage. Built in 1881 and now Grade II listed, the Abbey remains a celebration of craftsmanship and design. Within this wing, oak panelling, moulded plaster ceilings, and stained glass windows reflect the artistry of a bygone age.

William Morris wallpapers and fabrics complement the Victorian architecture, while restored fireplaces and period furnishings bring warmth and authenticity to every room.

From the grand entrance hall to the serene bedrooms above, the South Wing embodies the grace and grandeur of a true Herefordshire country house — where history is not just preserved, but lived.
